Become a Radio DJ in West-Central Florida

Are you looking to become a radio DJ in west-central Florida? If so, you're in luck! There are many ways to get involved in the radio industry and become a successful DJ. The University of Florida's Communication Media Division offers students the opportunity to gain experience in a competitive multimedia and broadcasting environment. WRUF-AM, launched in 1928, is the first local commercial radio station in Gainesville and one of the oldest in Florida. WUFT-TV is the PBS affiliate for north-central Florida and presents award-winning educational and entertainment programs from PBS, as well as locally produced content.

The station can be heard on several platforms, including over-the-air radio (89.1 HD2, 102.7 FM in Gainesville) and in west-central Florida on WUFQ-FM (88.5 FM).

No formal education is required

to become a radio DJ, but it is common for DJs who are interested in music to attend various concerts and music industry events in the evenings as a radio station representative. Aspiring radio DJs can get their first credits and get in touch with the industry by volunteering at a university or independent radio station, interning at a major radio station, or producing and distributing their own podcast. In order to become a DJ at a local community radio station in west-central Florida, applicants must give notice in a newspaper of general circulation in the community where the license is to be granted to the broadcaster.
